Most-wanted militant commander killed in Lakki Marwat operation

A most-wanted militant commander was killed in a joint operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Lakki Marwat and Lakki Marwat police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police officials said on Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Barkat, also known as Barkati and Abu Zar, was described by police as a key commander and facilitator of militant groups operating under multiple aliases.

According to the Central Police Office (CPO), Barkat was wanted in more than 10 serious criminal cases, including attacks on security forces, murder and extortion.

He was also allegedly involved in the targeted killings of several police personnel and a former Levies official, Hayatullah.

The operation was carried out in the outskirts of Wanda Amir Khan area of Lakki Marwat district. Police said volunteers from local peace committees participated alongside law enforcement personnel during the action.

Police termed the operation intelligence-based and said it dealt a significant blow to militant networks active in the area.
