Karachi extends rickshaw ban on 25 major roads for two months
The Karachi administration has extended the ban on the entry of two- and four-seater rickshaws on 25 major arteries to ease traffic congestion for two months, officials said on Monday.
Commissioner Karachi issued a formal notification enforcing the restriction under Section 144 on the recommendation of traffic police. The move aims to improve traffic flow across key corridors of the city.
According to the notification, rickshaws are completely barred from Sharea Faisal to I.I. Chundrigar Road with immediate effect. In case of violations, area station house officers (SHOs) have been directed to register cases under Section 188.
Roads covered by the ban include Sharea Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Sher Shah Suri Road and Shaheed-e-Millat Road.
The restriction also applies from Abdullah Haroon Road to Do Talwar, Shahrah-e-Firdousi, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Sulaiman Road and Rashid Minhas Road.
Other affected routes include Mauripur Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub Road, Qaidabad to Landhi 89, University Road, and Korangi Road from Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing.
The ban will also remain in force on Orangi Road, the Super Highway to Malir Halt, and from Surjani Town to Sohrab Goth.
