Toshakhana-II verdict: Kundi rejects political victimisation claims
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has rejected claims that former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are being subjected to political victimisation, insisting that cases against them are being handled strictly in accordance with the law.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar on Sunday, the governor said that Bushra Bibi could not claim to be apolitical, noting that she had led the PTI’s protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
“If she led a political protest, the claim of being non-political does not stand,” he said, adding that the former first lady also used to dictate postings and transfers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Referring to the Toshakhana-II case, Kundi said the law took its course.
“If the PTI thinks that arrests were unlawful, they could approach the courts,” he said, stressing that no one could be released through street protests.
The governor also questioned whether any convicted individual could seek freedom through street demonstrations, stating that both the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were convicted by courts.
The governor criticised the PTI’s governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the party had earlier claimed that everything in the province was under control, but now the chief minister was admitting problems in key sectors, including health.
Faisal Kundi said the province was facing serious challenges related to law and order and governance, adding that even the chief minister’s own district had been affected by terrorism.
Kundi called on the PTI’s provincial leadership to support counterterrorism operations, saying intelligence-based operations would be carried out wherever terrorists were present.
“The province cannot be handed over to terrorists,” he said, adding that security forces’ support was essential to restore peace and attract investment.
The governor also accused the PTI of jailing their political opponents when the party was in power, underscoring that accountability and the rule of law must apply equally to all.
