The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday declared Justice Tariq Jahangiri ineligible to hold the office of a judge for holding an invalid law degree.

A two-member bench, led by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan, heard the case concerning the authenticity of Justice Jahangiri’s LLB degree.

The court found that his LLB degree was not valid when he was appointed as a judge, rendering his appointment as a judge illegal.

The Registrar of Karachi University presented the original degree records to the court, while Justice Jahangiri did not appear in person.

His counsel, Barrister Salahuddin, requested the court to first consider three pending petitions filed by Justice Jahangiri.

Advocate Mian Dawood argued before the court that even the enrollment forms submitted by Justice Jahangiri were allegedly bogus, stating that if genuine, he should produce his LLB Part 1 and Part 2 marksheets.

The court ordered that Justice Tariq Jahangiri be de-notified as a judge, declaring him unfit to hold judicial office.

It may be noted that Justice Jahangiri has already challenged the IHC ruling of December 9 in the fake degree case in the Federal Constitutional Court.

In an appeal filed against the verdict of the two-member IHC bench, his petition argued that the case filed in the Islamabad High Court was not maintainable and requested that the writ petition against him be dismissed.

Justice Jahangiri has filed three petitions in the Islamabad High Court related to the degree controversy, seeking, among other requests, the removal of Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar from the bench hearing the case.

His petitions have been filed through Akram Sheikh and Barrister Salahuddin.
