Lahore police have recovered a 29-year-old textile designer who was kidnapped for ransom and arrested two suspects, officials said on Monday.

According to police, the victim, Aiman Rai, was lured by a man she had befriended on social media. She was abducted on December 10 after leaving home for a job at a textile factory and failing to return.

An FIR was registered at the Defence-A police station on the complaint of her sister, Ayesha Rai.

Police said the suspect called the victim to meet, took her to Gajju Matah, and, with accomplices, abducted her.

Investigators said the abductors later moved the woman to Hafizabad, where she was confined after being given intoxicants and subjected to sexual assault.

The suspects contacted the victim’s family from her phone and demanded Rs10 million for her release, threatening to kill her if the matter was reported.

Police said the victim’s uncle, Arshad, received the ransom calls from unidentified suspects.

Using modern technology, police traced and arrested two suspects, identified as Umar Kharal and Bilal.

The woman has been safely recovered and shifted for medical examination. Police said further investigation is underway, and additional arrests may follow.
