DSP suspended over alleged murder of wife and daughter in Lahore

IG Punjab orders departmental action; court grants three-day physical remand for recovery

A new development has emerged in the case involving the alleged murder of a DSP’s wife and daughter in Lahore, as Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has suspended DSP Usman Haider, who is currently in custody.

According to the Punjab Police, the suspension was ordered following the incident and a report submitted by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore. A formal notification has been issued, confirming that departmental action has been initiated against the officer under police rules.

A police spokesperson said DSP Usman Haider has been accused of killing his wife and daughter and remains under investigation.

Senior police officials took immediate notice of the matter after the incident, and further inquiries are underway.

Meanwhile, the Cantonment Kutchery Lahore issued a written order regarding the suspect’s physical remand.

The court was informed by police that recovery of the alleged murder weapon was required, for which a 14-day physical remand was sought.

After hearing arguments, the court approved a three-day physical remand for recovery purposes.

The court directed police to present any recovered items before it and ordered that the suspect be produced again on December 18. The case has been registered at Burki police station.

Separately, disciplinary action has also been taken against police officials over procedural lapses in the case.

The SHO Kahna was suspended for failing to register a murder case under Section 302 after the body of the DSP’s daughter was found.

Sources said the chowki in charge Asal Mohammad Zulfiqar, and ASI Allah Rakha were also suspended.

Police sources said that although a post-mortem was conducted, proceedings were initially carried out under Section 174 instead of registering a murder case. The body was later buried as unclaimed, prompting intervention by senior authorities.

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly killed his wife and daughter following a domestic dispute.

Police said the accused had contracted two marriages, and the deceased woman was his first wife, with whom he had a love marriage.

Police maintain that investigations are ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined.
