Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has clarified that he has “no regrets” about turning down a role in Boogie Nights to star in James Cameron’s 1997 epic Titanic, according to People.

In a recent interview with Deadline, the 51-year-old addressed earlier comments suggesting that missing out on Boogie Nights was his “greatest regret.”

He explained that his remark, made in conversation with director Paul Thomas Anderson, was meant as a fan’s admiration for Anderson’s work, not a personal regret.

Reflecting on the film, DiCaprio said, “I remember watching Boogie Nights and being struck by its impact on our generation. Mark Wahlberg did an incredible job, and I said what I did from the perspective of being a sincere fan.”

The role of Eddie Adams/Dirk Diggler, eventually played by Wahlberg, was initially offered to DiCaprio, but he was already committed to Titanic.

“No regrets. Looking back, I’m grateful to have been part of Titanic and for the ability to make my own choices. That has been the greatest gift,” DiCaprio said, adding that though he wished he could have done both films, the timing made it impossible.

He concluded by expressing excitement about reconnecting with Anderson on later projects, calling it “amazing” to collaborate with him now.
