Section 144 imposed in twin cities ahead of PTI sit-in outside Adiala Jail

Ban on rallies, gatherings as police, law enforcers placed on high alert

The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leaders on Tuesday — the meeting day with the inmates in Adiala Jail — have announced a sit-in outside the jail for continuously being denied a meeting with their founder chairman and incarcerated leader Imran Khan.

Markets and schools around the Adiala Jail were advised to remain closed to maintain the possible law and order situation amid protests.

The party has instructed all the workers and parliamentarians to take part in the protest. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is also expected to join and lead the protest. He is supposed to march from Peshawar to Islamabad.

According to the sources, the PTI leadership has planned a rally from the Parliament House to the Islamabad High Court building.

PTI claims that despite the court orders, the government is not allowing party leaders and family members to meet Imran Khan.

On the other hand, authorities imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi on Monday, while it remained in force in Islamabad due to security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

Notifications enforcing the restrictions were issued by both district administrations.

The Islamabad administration said Section 144 remains in force in the federal capital, under which all forms of protests, rallies and public gatherings are prohibited.

Officials warned that the law would take immediate effect against any unlawful activity and urged citizens not to participate in unauthorised events.

In Rawalpindi, Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema also imposed Section 144, with the order effective from December 1 to 3.

According to the notification, all types of gatherings, rallies and processions are banned during this period.

The order further restricts assemblies of five or more people, display of weapons, pillion riding and the use of loudspeakers.

The district administration said police and other law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert and will coordinate to ensure security across the city.

Violations of Section 144 will result in legal action, it added.

Authorities noted that Islamabad had previously enforced Section 144 last month amid concerns over possible demonstrations.
