IHC chief justice declines meeting with KP chief minister
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was denied a meeting with the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday, prompting the PTI-backed provincial leader to threaten political retaliation.
CM Afridi, accompanied by Aleema Khan, Advocate General KP, and other party leaders, arrived at the IHC with the intention of seeking an audience regarding his request to meet PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
After waiting for some time at the chief justice’s secretary office, he was informed that the meeting would not be possible today.
Sources said the chief minister expressed anger over the refusal, stating that the court had not granted him a hearing. He warned that in response, the PTI would not allow upcoming sessions of the National Assembly and Senate to proceed.
CM Afridi told reporters the PTI leadership would gather again next Tuesday outside the IHC and Adiala Jail.
He had earlier called off a sit-in on Adiala Road over the jail authorities’ refusal to arrange a meeting with Imran Khan, who is incarcerated in Adiala Jail.
The chief minister said he planned to file a petition in the IHC seeking permission for the meeting.
He had ended the sit-in after consultations with Allama Nasir Abbas and Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
During the protest, CM Afridi strongly objected to the jail administration’s refusal and demanded a written explanation.
Party leaders agreed to return to Adiala Jail next Tuesday on the scheduled family-visitation day and urged workers to gather in large numbers.
