Another petition challenging the 27th Constitutional Amendment was filed in the Lahore High Court on Wednesday.

The petition, submitted by a citizen Ashba Kamran, names the President of Pakistan, the National Assembly and the Senate as respondents through their respective secretaries.

Kamran contends that the amendment violates fundamental Islamic principles and therefore falls outside Parliament’s legislative authority.

The petition states that Islam requires all public officeholders to remain accountable before the people, and any law passed against this principle is unconstitutional.

The petitioner has requested the court to declare the 27th Constitutional Amendment null and void for allegedly contravening Islamic injunctions.
