Police have arrested a suspected thief in connection with a major burglary at the home of renowned Sindhi writer and poet Bedil Masroor in Karachi’s Sachal area.

Investigators said the suspect confessed during interrogation to stealing Rs7 million from the residence.

According to police, the man is the brother of the individual who had recently purchased property from Masroor.

Officials said geofencing of the crime scene flagged the suspect’s presence at the time of the incident, prompting his detention.

Police recovered Rs2 million of the stolen amount during the investigation.

Masroor had reportedly kept the money at home after selling a plot to cover his wife’s medical treatment expenses.

Police added that further interrogation is under way and other aspects of the incident are being examined.
