Stargazers across Pakistan can witness the first of three upcoming supermoons tonight (Tuesday), the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

According to SUPARCO, the supermoon will rise from the east at 8:47pm and set in the west, appearing 6.6% larger and 13% brighter than a regular full moon.

The planet Saturn will also be visible near the moon, positioned slightly to its left.

A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth, known as the perigee, making it appear significantly larger and more luminous than usual.

During tonight’s event, the moon will be just 221,817 miles from Earth.

SUPARCO added that the brightest supermoon of the year is expected in November, followed by two more on November 5 and December 5.
