The tropical cyclone ‘Shakti’ over the Arabian Sea has begun to lose strength and is gradually weakening into a cyclonic storm, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office said the storm, currently located about 910 kilometres southwest of Karachi, is expected to weaken further into a depression within the next 24 hours.

Winds near the storm’s centre are blowing at speeds of 70 to 90 kilometres per hour, while the cyclone continues to churn up rough sea conditions. Under its influence, light rainfall is likely today along the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

The PMD has advised fishermen not to venture into deep waters until October 7, warning that the sea is likely to remain very rough over the next 24 hours.

According to the Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi, maritime conditions are expected to stay highly unstable during this period, and precautionary measures should be strictly observed.
