The two elephants at Safari Park, Malika and Madhubala, are showing significant recovery after being diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) a few months ago, officials said Tuesday.

According to the park administration, the elephants are 80 per cent recovered following treatment by a team of Sri Lankan veterinarians.

Public access to the elephants had been restricted after the diagnosis, but a final decision on reopening will be taken after the visiting veterinary team’s assessment next month.

The two elephants were brought to Karachi from Tanzania in 2009 along with Noor Jehan and Sonia.

Noor Jehan died in 2023, while Sonia passed away in 2024.

Officials termed the progress encouraging and said the recovery is a hopeful sign for wildlife enthusiasts in the city.
