The Dutch Foreign Minister and member of a caretaker government Caspar Veldkam announced his resignation due to disagreements over the government’s stance on the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Veldkamp expressed his dissatisfaction with the cabinet’s refusal to support additional measures against Israel regarding its actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

“I have felt pushback in the cabinet for additional measures”, he stated, confirming that he would formally submit his resignation.

The Dutch government collapsed on June 3 and the current caretaker minority administration is expected to remain in place until a coalition government is formed following the upcoming elections in October, a process that may take several months.

As Israel continues its military offensive aimed at controlling Gaza city, relocating civilians, dismantling Hamas and pressuring for hostage releases, a global hunger monitor has reported that residents of Gaza city and surrounding areas are officially experiencing famine.

Additionally, Israel has granted final approval for plans to construct a settlement that would bisect the occupied West Bank further fragmenting the territory Palestinians seek for a future independent state.
