New Zealand defeat Pakistan 6-2 in FIH Nations Hockey Cup final
New Zealand overpowered Pakistan with a convincing 6–2 victory in the final of the FIH Nations Hockey Cup held in Malaysia on Saturday.
New Zealand dominated the match from the outset, building an unassailable 5–0 lead by halftime, effectively putting the game beyond Pakistan’s reach early on.
Playing with aggressive intent, New Zealand kept the Pakistani defence under constant pressure, capitalizing on penalty corners and field goals to extend their lead.
Despite a stronger showing in the second half, Pakistan managed only two goals — insufficient to mount a serious comeback.
The Pakistan national team had earned their place in the final after a strong performance against France in the semifinal, while New Zealand advanced by defeating Korea in a shootout in the other semifinal.
The final match, played at 6pm local time in Kuala Lumpur, saw enthusiastic support from Pakistani fans in the stadium, who turned up to back the Green Shirts in the crucial contest.
Despite the defeat, Pakistan’s run to the final marked a significant performance improvement and highlighted key areas for growth ahead of future international tournaments.
