In a significant development in the £190 million case, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled the hearing of sentence suspension petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi for June 5.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif will preside over the hearing.

The court had previously issued notices to the parties on May 15 and instructed that the petitions be fixed for hearing in the following week. The decision to fix the date comes after a request by the PTI leadership last week for early scheduling of the case.

It is worth recalling that on January 17, 2025, an accountability court at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, convicted Imran Khan in the £190 million reference and sentenced him to 14 years in prison. His wife Bushra Bibi was handed a 7-year sentence.

In addition to the jail terms, Judge Nasir Javed Rana also imposed fines of Rs 1 million on Imran Khan and Rs 500,000 on Bushra Bibi. Failure to pay the fines could result in an additional 6 months and 3 months in prison, respectively.

The case pertains to alleged misuse of funds recovered from the UK’s National Crime Agency, which were meant for the state of Pakistan but were allegedly retained for personal benefit.
