Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing Parliament and key stakeholders, laid out a detailed timeline of events and Pakistan’s measured response following the Pahalgam incident and subsequent Indian aggression, including 24 targeted strikes on Pakistani soil.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar told the National Assembly that India’s recent decisions in the wake of the Pahalgam incident represent a clear escalation against Pakistan and a violation of international norms.

“On April 22, when the Pahalgam incident occurred, our prime minister was in Ankara. By the very next morning, Pakistan had issued a strong condemnation to the international community,” Dar said during his speech in the assembly.

He said that following a meeting of India’s Cabinet Committee on Security, New Delhi made hostile decisions against Pakistan, including the closure of the Attari border, declaring Pakistani defence attaches persona non grata, and unilaterally suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.

“The Indus Waters Treaty cannot be scrapped unilaterally—India has no authority to do so,” he asserted.

Dar said Pakistan’s National Security Committee convened on April 24 and decided that any hostile measure from India would be met with a reciprocal response. “We made it clear this is not aggression on our part, but retaliation. Any Indian aggression will be answered with full force.”

Referring to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, he noted that an offer for an international, transparent investigation into the Pahalgam incident was extended, which was appreciated by multiple countries. “We briefed 26 foreign ministers and ambassadors, and over 40 envoys were updated on the developments,” Dar added.

He stressed that Pakistan had opted for restraint throughout and maintained diplomatic engagement. “Even the UN Secretary-General condemned India’s actions. Our permanent representative presented full details at a special UN Security Council session.”

Dar also revealed that India had been corresponding with Pakistan over the Indus Waters Treaty, seeking dialogue while simultaneously suspending its provisions. “We are clear—if our water is blocked, it will be considered an act of war.”

He claimed India had orchestrated another false-flag operation akin to Pulwama. “The alleged location is 230 km away from the LoC, making it seem highly suspicious. Intelligence suggested India was planning something. Last night, around 12:40 am, an incident occurred followed by an hour-long exchange of fire.”

Despite this, Dar said, Pakistan continued to show restraint. “Our air force had clear instructions: only shoot down any aircraft that drops payloads. If we hadn’t shown restraint, we could have brought down 10 to 12 Indian jets.”

In conclusion, Dar said Pakistan has written to the United Nations highlighting India’s breach of international law. “There have been 24 strikes on six locations, resulting in 26 martyrs and 46 injured. The world must take notice.”
