The fire and gas leakage in Karachi’s Korangi Creek area remains uncontrolled even after two weeks, as the crater at the site continues to expand.

In response to the ongoing emergency, the Petroleum Ministry has enlisted the help of American experts on the instructions of Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah.

According to the Chief Secretary’s spokesperson, technical teams from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) jointly visited the affected site. A team of specialists, including experts in drilling, well completion, and safety, conducted a thorough inspection of the area.

Despite ongoing efforts, experts observed no reduction in the intensity of the fire. The continuous release of gas has caused the crater to widen further, and hot water continues to flow from the site. Experts are currently consulting on a strategy to fill the crater with cement. If needed, a new well may be drilled to access the source of the gas leak, based on expert recommendations.

To assess the volume and temperature of the gas, advanced equipment is being imported. The Sindh government is actively coordinating with relevant departments to respond promptly to this critical situation and mitigate further risks.
