Over 3 dozen visas revoked for California University students, alumni amid crackdown
The US government has revoked the visas of more than three dozen students and alumni from California universities, a move attributed to a broader crackdown under the Trump administration.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio disclosed that the State Department has canceled at least 300 student visas, primarily targeting those participating in political activism, including several prominent pro-Palestinian scholars who have been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Stanford University has confirmed that the visas of four students and two recent graduates have been revoked, discovered during a routine check of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System database. The university has reached out to the affected individuals, offering legal assistance.
The University of California system, which encompasses multiple campuses, has acknowledged changes in the visa statuses of its international student population.
It emphasized its commitment to monitoring the situation and supporting affected community members as they navigate their legal rights.
Specifically, the University of California, Berkeley, reported the revocation of visas for six individuals, including an undergraduate and several graduate students, while the University of California, San Diego, and the University of California, Davis, saw five and twelve visa revocations, respectively.
