At least 18 killed in explosion at firecracker factory in Gujarat, India
An explosion at a firecracker factory in the town of Deesa, Gujarat, has resulted in the deaths of 18 people.
According to BBC Hindi, the death toll is expected to rise due to the intensity of the fire.
Several ambulances, firefighters, and government officials are currently engaged in the rescue operation outside the factory.
Authorities stated that the explosion occurred around 10 AM, causing the factory’s roof to collapse. Reports suggest that families of factory workers were also residing in the same building, and several individuals are still trapped under the debris.
Earlier, district collector Mihir Patel mentioned that the factory has completely collapsed, and efforts are underway to remove the rubble.
At that time, he had confirmed 13 deaths, but the number has now risen to 18.
Mihir Patel further stated that, based on initial information, firecrackers were being manufactured at the time of the explosion.
