KP government unveils 10-year reform plan for public universities
The Chief Minister’s Secretariat has sent a letter to the Higher Education Department regarding a 10-year reform plan for public universities, which will provide a roadmap to overcome the financial crisis and make them self-sufficient.
After becoming the Chancellor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s universities, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has decided to develop a 10-year strategy for large-scale reforms in universities.
The 10-year strategy will serve as the transformation plan for the higher education sector. Its goal is to modernize universities in terms of academics, administration, and research, and align them with contemporary educational demands.
According to the letter, a comprehensive draft must be prepared within 21 days, after which the draft will be presented to the provincial cabinet to officially recognize it as a government document.

The letter says that, the proposed strategy should include clear and actionable goals, timelines, and an effective monitoring mechanism, with legal, administrative, and financial reforms also being suggested to make the implementation possible.
The strategy will focus on faculty development, financial management, research excellence, governance structure, and student outcomes in the universities.
It also directs the Higher Education Department to review the reports and recommendations of committees formed in the past years in this regard.
