Indian High Court judge denies sacks of cash found at home
Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma has strongly denied allegations that a large quantity of burnt currency was recovered from his residence, calling the entire incident “foolish and unbelievable.”
\According to Indian media, the Supreme Court of India released videos and images on Saturday allegedly showing burnt currency recovered from Justice Verma’s residence. However, the judge has firmly rejected claims that any currency was found or seized from his home.
In response to inquiries from Delhi High Court Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Verma stated: “Assuming that the video is from the time and place of the alleged incident, I categorically deny that any currency notes were recovered or seized from my residence.”

Justice Verma clarified that he was not at home on the night of March 14 when the alleged incident took place. He said his daughter and staff informed him that officials provided no evidence of extracting burnt currency sacks after the fire was extinguished.
“What I find shocking is that the so-called burnt currency sacks have completely vanished. They were never recovered or seized. Neither my daughter, my personal secretary, nor my household staff were shown any burnt currency sacks,” he added.
The Delhi Police Commissioner reportedly shared a video with the Delhi High Court Chief Justice, allegedly showing the recovery of a burnt currency sack from Justice Verma’s residence.
‘No cash stored in my house’
Justice Verma reiterated that no money was extracted from his residence, saying that the only thing removed was debris and whatever could be salvaged after the fire.
He further dismissed the idea of cash storage, stating: “The suggestion that I or my family kept cash in our storeroom is utterly foolish. No one would store currency in an openly accessible storeroom near staff quarters or a common-use warehouse. It’s simply absurd and irrational.”
Justice Verma labelled the entire episode as a clear attempt to frame and malign him, asserting that the allegations were part of a larger conspiracy to defame him.
