Mehrang Baloch, the central organizer of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has been transferred to Quetta jail along with four other women under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for one month.

According to Quetta Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat, during the BYC protest in support of deceased Jaffar Express attackers, violent demonstrators pelted stones and opened fire at the police.

He claimed that two laborers and an Afghan citizen were killed due to firing by armed individuals present with BYC leadership.

Meanwhile, Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Balochistan government, told the “Naya Pakistan” program on a private TV channel that the BYC leadership was arrested following an attack on Civil Hospital Quetta.

He further stated that armed individuals were part of the BYC protest and justified the use of special laws in extraordinary situations. Water cannons were used to disperse the protesters demanding the return of the bodies of the slain attackers.
