ICC Champions Trophy 2025 breaks viewership records in India with historic final

The tournament witnessed a watch time of approximately 250 billion

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 set an unprecedented milestone in India, breaking viewership records and establishing itself as the highest-rated multi-nation cricket tournament in the country’s history. Held in Pakistan and Dubai, this marquee event has redefined the global cricketing landscape, with India playing a pivotal role in its success.

The clash between the historic rivals India and Pakistan was a key highlight of the tournament became the most watched ODI match in India. It surpasses the previous viewership record of 19.6 million during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. This high-stake encounter generated over 26 billion minutes of watch-time on TV.

Final of the tournament which was played on 9th March between India and New Zealand with India winning the match and so the tournament reaches the viewership of 122 million on television, making it the most-watched final of any multi-nation cricket tournament in India’s history.

According the official statistics, ICC reveals that the tournament witnessed a watch time of approximately 250 billion, fuelling the record-breaking success of the tournament.

The shift towards digital platforms has been particularly noteworthy. With millions of fans turning to mobile apps and online streaming platforms to watch the live matches.

ICC Chair Jay Shah said, “The Champions Trophy made an amazing return after eight years and the viewership numbers from India have been overwhelming, in particular the final between India and New Zealand.”

“The incredible viewership numbers highlight the mass appeal that cricket has in India and how taking ICC events to audiences in different languages can significantly boost fan engagement.

“The success of the Champions Trophy marketing strategy is evident, creating excitement in existing and new fanbases, complimented by highly exciting cricket throughout the event.”
