On the night of March 7, 2024, a joint operation by police and the Counter Terrorism Department successfully thwarted a planned terrorist attack on Adiala Jail. CPO Khalid Saeed Hamdani reported that the operation prevented a significant disaster, leading to the arrest of three Afghan-origin terrorists, who have been moved to a secure location.

Authorities recovered a large cache of automatic weapons, ammunition, grenades, and improvised explosive devices, as well as detailed maps of the jail from the suspects.

Following the arrests, law enforcement conducted a search operation around Adiala Jail, which currently houses high-profile inmates such as former Prime Minister Imran Khan, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and former Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi.
