UN Security Council calls for cooperation with Pakistan to combat terrorism

Body calls for accountability, condemns terrorist attack on Jaffar Express in Pakistan

The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express passenger train in Pakistan, which resulted in the deaths of at least 26 people, including security personnel and hostages. The attack, carried out by the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), occurred near the city of Sibi in Balochistan province.

In a press statement, Security Council members denounced the violence and reaffirmed that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.”

The Security Council emphasized the need to hold those responsible to account, urging all states to cooperate with Pakistan. “They underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of such acts of terrorism accountable,” the statement read, calling on nations to work with Pakistan under international law and relevant UN resolutions.

Reiterating their firm stance against terrorism, the Council members stressed that “any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.”

The Security Council also expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Pakistan, while reaffirming the international community’s commitment to combating terrorism.
