Daughter saves father’s life with liver donation but loses her own
A daughter lost her life 15 days after giving life to her father with a liver donation in Multan’s Shujaabad.
“A liver transplant is surgery to replace a diseased liver with a healthy liver from another person. A whole liver may be transplanted. Or part of a liver may be transplanted from another person,” according to Johns Hopkins Medical.
Maqdas Khalil passed away while being treated in the hospital. His father’s life was saved after the transplant in Sindh’s Gambat.
The 20-year-old BSc final-year student, who lived in the Raja Ram area of Shujaabad, donated 60% of her liver to her father.
Officials said the father, recovering on his hospital bed, was unaware of the incident till the filing of this story.
In many cases, the US institute said that healthy livers for transplantation come from deceased donors. But there are instances where a living person donates a portion of their liver.
“The liver is the only organ in the body that can replace lost or injured tissue (regenerate). In fact, the donor’s liver will soon grow back to normal size after surgery. And the part that you receive as a new liver will also grow to normal size in a few months,” it said.
