Punjab govt launches free transplant programme for citizens
In a major public health initiative, the Punjab government has launched the Chief Minister’s Free Transplant Programme under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
This programme will provide five types of transplant surgeries completely free of cost to the general public, including liver, kidney, bone marrow, and cornea transplants, as well as cochlear implants for children born with hearing impairments.
To benefit from the program, patients must register with the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA).
Once registered, they can undergo organ transplants under the government initiative.
The transplants will be conducted in both public and private hospitals, ensuring wider access to life-saving procedures.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasised that organ transplants are complex and prohibitively expensive for most citizens.
“The common man cannot afford these procedures, so the state will now fulfil this responsibility,” she stated.
