Case filed against 57 terrorists involved in Lower Kurram convoy attack

Authorities have registered a case against 57 terrorists involved in the deadly attack on a convoy in Lower Kurram, which occurred on February 17.

The case was filed at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, naming key suspects, including Kazim and others who were also wanted for a similar attack on a Parachinar-bound convoy on November 21.

The First Information Report (FIR), lodged by SHO Ahmad Shama Shaheed Khan, states that a convoy of 63 goods-laden vehicles travelling from Thall to Parachinar was ambushed in the Mandori and Ochat areas.

The attackers, linked to the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), looted the cargo, torched 19 vehicles, and forced 33 others to turn back, many of which were later plundered.

The assault resulted in the martyrdom of five security personnel and a driver, while 19 others, including five security officials and five drivers, sustained injuries.

The FIR includes charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act (9ATA, 7ATA) and Section 302 for murder. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the accused, who belong to various areas of Kurram district.

Authorities also noted that the same suspects were involved in the November 21 Parachinar convoy attack, which left over 120 people dead and injured.

However, most of the perpetrators remain at large.

Police, security forces arrest 30 individuals

Earlier, In a major counter-terrorism operation, police and security forces arrested 30 individuals, including 18 terrorists, in Lower Kurram.

Authorities also apprehended 12 facilitators during the raid.

According to details, a search operation was carried out across multiple areas, including Bagan, Charkhel, Dad Kamar, Mandori, and Uchit. The joint forces cracked down on terrorists responsible for recent attacks on convoys travelling to Parachinar.

Police reported that the terrorists had looted over 30 trucks en route to Parachinar, setting 19 of them on fire. Raids are ongoing in Kurram, Orakzai, and Kohat to arrest more suspects.

Government orders evacuation of four villages

Amid escalating violence, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has ordered the evacuation of four villages in Lower Kurram — Uchit, Mandori, Dad Kamar and Bagan — to facilitate targeted operations against armed militants.

A high-level meeting decided to offer rewards for the capture of key suspects and masterminds while ensuring public safety.

Additionally, authorities have accelerated the demolition of illegal bunkers in the region.

According to district officials, following the Kohat Peace Agreement, an operation against bunkers has led to the demolition of 194 structures.

So far, 117 bunkers have been removed from Balish Khel and Kharkali in Lower Kurram, while 77 have been dismantled in Pewar and Tari Mangal in Upper Kurram.

Meanwhile, the main highway connecting Parachinar and Tall has remained closed for 142 days, exacerbating difficulties for locals.

Social activist Ali Jawad highlighted that around 1,500 students and nearly 2,000 overseas Pakistanis are stranded in the region.

Many residents have seen their visas expire, and students risk losing an academic year.

The fuel shortage has paralyzed public transport, forcing people to rely on overpriced fuel sold in the black market.

The transport association and local citizens have urged the government to reopen the roads immediately to alleviate the crisis.
