Indian former cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has shared his struggles with being apart from his son, stating that he has not seen his 11-year-old Zoravar in two years and has communicated with him for the last year.

In a podcast with ANI, Dhawan shared how he copes with the heartbreaking separation.

The former India opener revealed that he has been unable to communicate with his son, prompting him to seek comfort in “spiritual” connections.

“It has been difficult, but you learn to live with it. I miss him [Zoravar] and speak to him spiritually,” he said.

“I feel through affirmations that I’m conversing with [Zoravar] him every day, hugging him. I put my energy into it spiritually. It is the only way I can bring back my son. My sadness won’t help. I manifest.”

“I already feel that I’m with him [Zoravar], speaking to him, playing with him. When I sit for my meditation, I visualise those things,” he added.

When asked what cricket memories he would share with his son if he had the chance, Dhawan responded, “I would first hug him [Zoravar] and spend time listening to him. The idea of showing him any of my innings hasn’t even crossed my mind. I want to understand him, and if he gets emotional, I would cry with him. I just want to cherish my time with him.

He articulated his wish for his son to be “happy and healthy,” indicating that, despite being blocked, he “continues to send messages every three to four days, without expecting his son to read them.”

Dhawan stated that “he is indifferent to whether his son receives the messages, as he considers it his duty to reach out and intends to persist in this effort.”

The left-handed batter married Australian boxer Ayesha Mukherjee in 2012 and got a divorce in October 2023, resulting in him losing custody of Zoravar. Although he was granted the right to connect through video calls, such attempts have been hindered. Nevertheless, he continues to strive to reach out.
