United States Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced that the Justice Department would sue New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New York Attorney General Letitia Ann James and the state of New York following immigration policies.

Bondi alleged that New York’s Green Light law favours “illegal aliens” over American citizens.

She added that the Justice Department had “filed charges,” although the lawsuit seemed to be a civil case. No copies of the lawsuit were provided to reporters at the news conference, and it was not readily accessible in online federal court records.

“If you are a state not complying with federal law, you’re next, get ready,” Bondi said.

“This is a new DOJ [Department of Justice], and we are taking new steps to protect Americans.”

Bondi stated that Hochul, James, and Mark Schroeder, the commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, were all named as defendants.

New York’s Green Light law permits the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue driver’s licences to anyone in the state, regardless of citizenship or legal status.
