Grade 17-22 government employees required to declare assets
In a significant move, the federal cabinet has approved an amendment to the Civil Servants Act, 1973, making it mandatory for all government employees from Grade 17 to 22 to declare their assets.
The cabinet has approved the inclusion of a new Section 15-A in the law.
According to sources, the amendment will require officials to disclose both domestic and foreign assets, including those owned by their family members.
These declarations must be submitted online to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The proposed amendment will also allow public access to the declared assets of government employees.
With the introduction of a digital filing system, officials will be obligated to declare all foreign bank accounts, properties, and investments.
Sources indicate that the amendment considers privacy and security concerns, incorporating recommendations from the FBR, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Law.
The decision follows the IMF’s refusal to relax conditions regarding asset disclosure during its recent delegation visit.
The amendment draft will soon be presented in Parliament for approval. Once passed, it will also be shared with the IMF delegation.
