Umar Ayub writes to IMF, emphasises transparency and rule of law

Provides evidence of alleged electoral rigging in recent polls

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Umar Ayub, has written to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stressing the need for transparency and rule of law in Pakistan.

The letter also includes evidence of alleged electoral rigging in the recent general elections.

In his letter, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader highlighted the IMF mission’s ongoing visit as a crucial moment for Pakistan.

He asserted that fair elections and adherence to the rule of law are essential for economic growth and political stability.

The letter was accompanied by a dossier previously submitted to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, detailing what Ayub described as undeniable proof of election manipulation.

He accused state institutions, including the Election Commission, of systematically suppressing PTI and altering electoral results.

Ayub also referenced a report by the NGO Pattan, which, he claims, verifies evidence of electoral fraud.

He recalled that PTI’s founder had raised concerns about fair elections in a July 7, 2023, meeting with an IMF delegation, emphasising that economic progress is impossible without the rule of law.

The opposition leader urged international institutions to take note of the situation to improve governance oversight in Pakistan.

He expressed hope that democratic principles and legal integrity would remain a priority. Ayub concluded by offering to provide further details on the matter to ensure transparency and constitutional adherence in the country.
