16 Pakistani victims identified in Libya boat tragedy
A tragic bid for a better future in Europe ended in disaster off Libya’s coast. Sixteen Pakistani victims of the boat accident have been identified, with 13 hailing from Kurram and three from Peshawar, Bajaur, and Orakzai.
Out of 63 passengers onboard, 37 survived, while 10 remain missing.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, a team from Pakistan’s embassy in Tripoli visited the city of Zawiya to gather information from local authorities and the hospital.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that 63 Pakistanis were on board. So far, 16 bodies have been recovered and confirmed as Pakistani nationals.
Among the survivors, one remains hospitalised, while 33 are in police custody. Three others are in Tripoli, where the Pakistani embassy is providing assistance.
The Foreign Office released an official list of identified victims based on their Pakistani passports.
The deceased include Saqlain Haider, Shoaib Hussain, Nusrat Hussain, Shoaib Ali, Syed Shehzad Hussain, Abid Hussain, Asif Ali, Masoor Hussain, Aswar Hussain, Abid Hussain, Masaib Hussain, Ashfaq Hussain, and Shahid Hussain from Kurram; Anis Khan from Peshawar; Muhammad Ali Shah from Orakzai; and Sirajuddin from Bajaur.

The Foreign Office confirmed that the embassy is in constant contact with local authorities to gather more details.
The accident occurred near Marsah Della Port, where a boat carrying 65 passengers capsized.
Libya’s Red Crescent reported that 10 bodies were recovered on Friday near Zawiya. The deceased were handed over to local authorities after legal procedures.
