Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, he lamented the loss of over 50,000 innocent lives in Palestine and called for an urgent resolution to the crisis.

During his address, PM Shehbaz praised the leadership of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for successfully organising the summit, which he described as a crucial platform for shaping a better future for humanity.

Addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the prime minister stressed that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through a two-state solution, in accordance with the UN resolutions. He expressed hope for sustainable peace in the region, despite decades of turmoil.

Pakistan’s economic reforms

He said that “Uraan Pakistan” is a national economic transformation plan. Inflation has dropped to 2.4 per cent, the lowest level in the past nine years. Energy, infrastructure, and economic transformation are key components of this strategy.

The policy rate has been reduced to 12 per cent, creating ideal investment opportunities for the private sector.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that despite challenges, Pakistan has achieved economic stability. The country is actively promoting nuclear, wind, hydro, and solar energy projects. The capacity for hydropower generation will be increased by 13,000MW.

In his speech, he further highlighted that Pakistan’s southern regions have the potential to generate 50,000 MW of wind energy.

The government aims to shift 60 per cent of the energy mix to green energy and 30 per cent to electric vehicles by 2030.

PM Shehbaz emphasised that Pakistan’s skilled workforce and strategic location make it an attractive destination for investment.

The government is implementing measures to ease business operations, and with 70 per cent of the population consisting of young people, the country holds significant economic potential.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is visiting the UAE to attend the World Governments Summit 2025. The summit, themed “Shaping Future Governments”, has commenced in Dubai today.

Meeting with UAE president

PM Shehbaz met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed during his visit to the UAE. The UAE president warmly welcomed the Pakistani prime minister, with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir also present at the meeting.

During the discussions, both leaders exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing strategic ties. They also deliberated on mutual interests, economic collaboration, and further deepening relations between the two nations.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared vision for sustainable economic growth and prosperity, emphasising the importance of continued partnership and cooperation.
