Celebration turns to sorrow as brother killed, sister Injured in Karachi accident
A young man was killed and his sister injured in a hit-and-run accident in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town, highlighting the ongoing crisis of traffic fatalities in the city. The brother, identified as Hasnain son of Imran, was taking his sister, Fatima, to dinner to celebrate her first-place win in a martial arts competition when the incident occurred.
Rescue services transported both victims to Jinnah Hospital, where Hasnain succumbed to his injuries.
This latest tragedy follows a particularly deadly week in Karachi. On Saturday alone, four people lost their lives in separate traffic accidents. Three motorcyclists were killed instantly near the Korangi crossing when a dumper truck, traveling on the wrong side of the road, struck them. Angry onlookers subsequently set the truck ablaze. Relatives of the deceased blocked the road in protest.
Reckless driving, speeding, and vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road are rampant in Karachi, contributing to a shocking number of fatalities. This year alone, 96 people have died in traffic accidents in the city. Over the past four years, a staggering 2,500 Karachi residents have lost their lives due to traffic-related incidents. The city’s authorities face growing pressure to address this escalating public safety crisis.
