Case of Ranipur’s Fatima ends with ‘settlement’

The four accused – Pir Asad Shah, Hina Shah, Fayyaz Shah, and Imtiaz – remain in jail

The case surrounding the death of 10-year-old Fatima Feroze, a young domestic worker who died at a Peer’s residence in Ranipur, has been concluded through a settlement between the accused and the victim’s mother, Shabnam Feroze. The development comes after allegations of influence and financial pressure.

According to the lawyer, Advocate Qurban Malano, Shabnam Feroze submitted a written statement to the court requesting the case’s dismissal and expressing her reconciliation with the accused. She also requested the court to grant bail to the accused. The Fourth Additional Sessions Judge adjourned the hearing until February 17th.

Sources suggest that the settlement was reached due to a combination of financial compensation and pressure exerted on the victim’s family. Following the hearing, Fatima’s mother reportedly left the court quickly, avoiding media interaction. The lawyer for the accused confirmed the submission of an affidavit.

The four accused – Pir Asad Shah, Hina Shah, Fayyaz Shah, and Imtiaz – remain in jail. Reports of financial transactions between the parties have circulated for some time. Sources indicate that the victim’s family had previously submitted a statement indicating a willingness to settle, possibly due to the intervention of influential individuals. The parents had previously revealed experiencing pressure in the case.

The incident

The incident occurred on August 16, 2023, in Khairpur. Fatima Feroze, a young domestic worker at the influential Peer’s residence, died under mysterious circumstances. Initially, the girl’s body was buried without an autopsy, and police registered a case without conducting a medical examination or post-mortem.

Fatima’s parents initially stated that their daughter worked at the Peer’s house due to their poverty and that she had died from illness after being sick for three days. However, the case gained public attention after a video of Fatima’s body at the Peer’s house went viral on social media. Initially, Fatima’s mother, Shabana, had refused to file a case. The circumstances surrounding the death and the subsequent settlement raise significant concerns.
