American rapper and record producer Kanye West, now known as Ye, has reportedly lost a contract worth $20 million in Japan due to controversy at the Grammys.

The 47-year-old rapper attended the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (Feb 2) with his wife, Bianca Censori, whose choice to wear a semi-transparent outfit on the red carpet has reportedly resulted in West losing a lucrative contract.

West was set to perform two shows at the Tokyo Dome in May, but his recent actions have led the event organisers in Japan to reconsider.

“Japan is having a cultural awakening about women’s rights and the MeToo movement is really strong here. What he did is being seen as an act of coercive control which is utterly unacceptable. He has completely culturally misjudged Japan,” the CNA Lifestyle insider said.

West is said to have “greatly misjudged the tolerance of the Japanese people”.

Page Six reported police escorted the couple out of the event soon after the “crazy outfit moment they pulled on the carpet,” believed to be a nod to the cover of West’s latest album, Vultures 1.

Lipreader Nicola Hickling stated that Kanye might have planned Censori’s provocative display, as she interpreted their conversation just before the architect took off her coat.

“I’ll tell ‘em you’re on fire tonight, babe,” Hickling claims the rapper said to Censori via the Mirror.

“You’re making a scene now,” he said, adding, “make a scene. I’ll say it’ll make so much sense.”

Censori nodded in response.

“Drop it behind you and then turn…You’re making a scene now…I got you,” Kanye said.

Censori told the ‘Runaway’ rapper, “All right, let’s go,” after the duo posed for pictures on the carpet, according to Hickling.
