Kurram’s tribal elders gather in Islamabad for jirga

A protest continues in Lower Kurram Mandori, demanding aid for the victims of recent incidents

In a significant move towards establishing lasting peace in Kurram District, tribal leaders from both sides are convening an important jirga today at the residence of former Senator Sajjad Syed Mian in Islamabad. The meeting aims to discuss the restoration of law and order and the resolution of long-standing conflicts.

According to jirga member Syed Raza Hussain, leaders have started arriving in Islamabad to engage in face-to-face discussions to clear misunderstandings and find solutions to ongoing issues.

The jirga will also address practical steps for establishing enduring peace and tackling the difficulties faced by the local population.

Due to ongoing tensions in Kurram, access routes have been blocked for the past four months, leaving over 500,000 people trapped. Social activist Yousaf Lala reported that the lack of food and medical facilities has led to the deaths of 460 patients, including 220 children.

Meanwhile, a protest continues in Lower Kurram Mandori, demanding aid for the victims of recent incidents and the arrest of those involved. Local leader Malik Haji Karim stated that the protest will not end until the issues are resolved.

Jirga members express optimism about making significant progress toward sustainable peace and hope that both parties will reach a final agreement through negotiations.
