Former adult star Emily Willis sues rehab centre after cardiac arrest
Former adult entertainer Emily Willis, known as Litzy Lara Banuelos, has filed a lawsuit against a Malibu rehabilitation centre where she was receiving treatment for ketamine addiction, claiming she was now “permanently disabled.”
The 25-year-old actress remained in a “semi-conscious” state following a cardiac arrest at Summit Malibu in February 2024, according to media reports.
The legal action, submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on December 27, 2024, has alleged that the facility committed “abuse of a dependent adult, professional negligence, negligence, and fraudulent business practices.”
On February 4, 2024, Willis was found unresponsive by a nurse practitioner, who promptly called for assistance and administered CPR. It remained unclear how long she had been unresponsive before being discovered.
Although paramedics were able to restore her heartbeat after 30 to 40 minutes of CPR, the prolonged lack of oxygen resulted in severe brain damage, leaving her in a comatose state.
In March, following a distressing health update, Emily Willis’ family revealed that her stepfather, Michael Willis, anticipated she would remain in a “vegetative state.” While she has since opened her eyes and can track movements, smile, and respond emotionally to conversations, doctors do not expect significant improvement beyond this.

“Had the staff adhered to standard medical protocols, Emily would have had a chance to regain control of her life,” said the family’s attorney, James A Morris Jr. “No patient should endure such a catastrophic failure in clinical care. Her health was neglected until it was too late, and her life is now irrevocably altered.”
The specific cause of Willis’ cardiac arrest remains uncertain, but drug tests conducted at the time showed no presence of ketamine or other substances in her system.
The lawsuit contended that Willis’ health rapidly deteriorated after she entered the rehab facility. She became “dishevelled, frail, disoriented,” and faced difficulties with walking, eating, showering, and dressing. Additionally, she experienced aches, tremors, weakness, and spasms.
