Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would inaugurate the revamped Lahore stadium on February 7, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday.

“The President of Pakistan will inaugurate the Karachi stadium on February 11,” Naqvi told reporters in Lahore. “We have scheduled our Champions Trophy event in Lahore on February 16.”

The PCB renovated its three stadiums for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.

The 50-over tournament would be held in a hybrid model after India refused to visit Pakistan over their government’s refusal. The tournament’s opening match is set to be held on February 19 between Pakistan and New Zealand. The highly anticipated Pakistan-India clash would take place on February 23 at Dubai stadium.

After this, the national team would play its third match against Bangladesh on February 27. The first semi-final is scheduled for March 3, with the second semi-final on March 4.

As per the possible schedule, the mega event’s final is expected to be held on March 9, with a reserve day included as well.

“We have invited all cricket boards and ICC officials,” he said and expressed hope that some sports ministers would visit the country.

“We have imported chairs from China. It is an HDP standard chair and has a 20-year warranty. It was a big task to bring these chairs in 90 days,” Naqvi said.

The team for the Champions Trophy would be announced later in the day.

In response to a question, he said that some officials would visit the country in the semi-finals, in the middle of a tournament and in the final.

When asked about the absence of the Indian skipper in the captains’ event, he said: “The ICC has to coordinate it. We are now in a hybrid model, that’s why we have a problem. Even if we had it in Pakistan, we would have arranged every time as not all teams are arriving here on the same date.”

He added that there would be different teams for the two formats of cricket by 2026 start.
