Facial recognition confirms arrested suspect in Saif Ali Khan attack case
In a development regarding the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, authorities have confirmed that the facial recognition test of the arrested suspect has matched the individual captured in CCTV footage from the incident.
Saif was attacked on January 16 when an intruder entered the actor’s residence. Police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, who is reportedly a foreign national.
The Mumbai Police announced that the facial recognition test corroborated that the suspect was indeed the same person seen in the CCTV footage, Indian media reported.
“Arrested accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad’s facial recognition tested positive, confirming his identity matches that in the CCTV footage,” they said in a post on X.

Investigators also submitted various pieces of evidence to the Forensic Science Laboratory, including blood samples and clothing from both Khan and the suspect. Additional items discovered during the investigation included Shehzad’s driving licence and Bangladeshi ID cards.
Saif, who underwent surgery for his injuries, was discharged from the hospital on January 21, and has since been recovering at home with family support.
