Apple adjusts key iphone settings: Here’s why you might want to change them back
Apple has released iOS 18.3, which introduces several new features aimed at enhancing the user experience on compatible iPhones.
Among the updates is a range of visual Intelligence capabilities that leverage Apple’s artificial intelligence to help users gain insights about their surroundings, media reports said.
For instance, iPhone 16 users can utilise their camera to identify various plants, animals, and insects. The camera can recognise event flyers and posters, automatically adding those events to the iPhone’s Calendar app.
With the rollout of iOS 18.3, Apple has made a change to a default setting related to its Apple Intelligence feature. In the past, iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro/Max users had to manually activate the feature to access its functionalities. With the new update, the AI feature is enabled automatically upon installation.
The default activation means that users of the latest iPhones will see an impact on their storage capacity. The Apple Intelligence feature requires about 7GB of data, which could be a considerable amount for those who do not intend to use it. The same storage requirement applies to compatible iPads and Macs that support Apple Intelligence.
For users who don’t actively utilise the AI features, the automatic setting could be frustrating, as it unnecessarily consumes valuable storage space. Fortunately, there is a straightforward way to disable the feature and reclaim that storage.
To turn off Apple Intelligence, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and select Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Toggle off Apple Intelligence.
- Confirm your choice when prompted by selecting ‘Turn Off Apple Intelligence.’

Disabling this feature would deactivate all related functionalities, including advanced writing tools, photo editing options, Notification Summaries, and the Type to Siri feature.
It’s worth noting that only the newest iPhone models, specifically all iPhone 16 variants and the iPhone 15 Pro/Max, support Apple Intelligence. Users of these devices may want to consider their usage habits before keeping this feature activated.
