Pakistan reports first Mpox case of 2025
Pakistan has confirmed its first case of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) for the year 2025, as announced by the Ministry of Health.
The patient, who recently returned from Dubai on January 24, was detected during screening at Peshawar Airport and subsequently tested positive for the virus.
This brings the total number of mpox cases in Pakistan to ten since the declaration of a health emergency.
The individual has been admitted to Services Hospital in Peshawar for treatment. Health authorities noted that the patient had traveled to various Gulf countries, raising concerns about the potential spread of the virus.
In a related incident, another passenger arriving from Sharjah, identified as Javed Ahmed from Rajanpur, showed symptoms of mpox during airport screening and was placed in an isolation ward as a precaution.
