ICC names three Pakistanis in ODI team of 2024
Three Pakistani cricket stars have been named in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2024: Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf. The announcement highlights Pakistan’s strong performance in One Day Internationals throughout the year.
The ICC lauded the team’s overall balance of star power, consistency, and versatility. Saim Ayub, a breakout star, led the batting charge with an impressive record: nine matches, 515 runs, a 64.37 average, and three centuries. His performance in South Africa, where he averaged 78.3 across a three-match series, was particularly noteworthy.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, despite playing only six ODIs, made a significant impact with 15 wickets and a 17.6 bowling average, showcasing his consistent international performance and impressive strike rate.
Haris Rauf, with 13 wickets and a 22.4 bowling average in eight matches, also contributed significantly, notably taking 10 wickets in the three-match series against Australia, including a five-wicket haul in Adelaide.
The team also includes players from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, reflecting the diverse talent across international cricket. The inclusion of three Pakistanis in this prestigious team underscores their significant contributions to the global ODI scene in 2024.
