Indian police have reported that a suspected Bangladeshi national, arrested in connection with the stabbing of actor Saif Ali Khan, found the security guards asleep when he entered the actor’s residence.

He accessed the building through the main entrance, where there were no CCTV cameras installed, making it easier for him to breach security.

The suspect, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad, also known as Vijay Das, reportedly entered Khan’s residential building on January 16 by scaling the compound wall.

Authorities reported that Shehzad, who was arrested in Thane on January 19, had illegally entered India seven months prior and had used a West Bengal resident’s Aadhaar card to obtain a SIM card before relocating to Mumbai.

After discovering that both security guards at the building were asleep, Shariful Islam Shehzad crossed the boundary wall to enter. To minimize noise, he removed his shoes and placed them in his bag, and he also turned off his phone, according to police reports.

On Tuesday, the Mumbai Police recreated the crime scene at the actor’s 12-storey Bandra residence, spending approximately an hour to understand how Shehzad executed the attack, which initially aimed at theft.

Shehzad entered Khan’s home on January 16, intending to steal. However, the situation escalated when a housekeeper spotted him in the room of Saif’s younger son, Jeh.

The staff raised the alarm, prompting Saif to confront the intruder. During the ensuing struggle, the actor was stabbed multiple times, suffering a serious injury near his spine.

Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery to remove a knife fragment lodged in his back and to address spinal fluid leakage. He was discharged from the hospital five days after the incident.
