No political issues discussed between COAS and PTI, security sources say
Security sources have revealed details of a meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar, and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir. The meeting, which took place in Peshawar, focused on security and counter-terrorism matters within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sources emphasized that the discussion did not involve political issues.
According to sources, while Barrister Gohar attempted to steer the conversation towards political matters, the COAS reportedly responded that such discussions should be held with political figures.
Security sources clarified that subsequent reporting of the meeting has misrepresented the context of the conversation, attempting to portray the security discussions as politically motivated. They expressed regret over these attempts to politicize what was a purely security-focused meeting.
This meeting, which took place two days prior, was confirmed by Barrister Gohar, who described it as “extremely positive and welcome.” PTI founder Imran Khan also expressed his approval of the meeting, stating that it was positive for the country’s stability.
Barrister Gohar confirmed the meeting and its positive nature, adding that Imran Khan had also welcomed the dialogue as beneficial for Pakistan’s stability. Gohar further stated that all his actions and meetings are conducted with the guidance and permission of Imran Khan.
