Punjab to build Pakistan’s first AI univeristy, says CM Maryam
Pakistan’s first artificial intelligence university would be built in Punjab to allow students to study AI, robotics, machine learning, and science, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Thursday.
“Our students should not lag behind and should compete in every frontier,” she said the at laptop scheme inauguration event in Faisalabad.
“I launched a scheme in the morning; students can take up to Rs30 million in loans for students to study and do part-time jobs or do business; even free land will be given to them to start businesses to be efficient and helping hands,” she said.
She stated that the giving of 30,000 laptops would be increased to 50,000 by next year, as the provincial government would increase the budget.
“I will bring scholarships for 3rd and 4th year semester students,” she said, “the laptop scheme should be enhanced from 40,000 to 100,000 with students scoring above 65%, studying in public universities and colleges.”
She joked about students using the ChatGPT tool for research purposes, highlighting the importance of research and Pakistan’s decline in the research aspect.

She emphasised that “China has been teaching AI to children since five classes and Pakistan is still preaching violence.”
