Sui Southern out of answers as gas disappears from Karachi
Residents of Karachi are expressing outrage at Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) following several days of widespread gas outages across the city.
Consumers report paying hefty monthly bills but receiving little to no gas service, drawing comparisons to the practices of Karachi Electric (KE), another utility frequently criticized for inconsistent service.
Areas severely affected include North Karachi, Bilal Site, Metroville, PIB Colony (where residents report four days without gas), Jamshed Road, Landhi, Malir, Shah Faisal, and Keamari. Residents claim that even routine gas supply has been disrupted.
SSGC has remained largely unresponsive to public complaints, with company spokespeople reportedly unavailable for comment. Sources within SSGC attribute the shortages to a reported 300 MMCFD (million cubic feet per day) gas deficit.
However, this explanation has done little to appease frustrated residents who are demanding immediate action to restore gas supply and address the apparent discrepancy between billing and service.
